Keeping horses comfortable in record temperatures

World Horse Welfare are advising those who care for horses to take extra measures to ensure their horses are kept healthy and happy during unusually high temperatures. All horses will need constant access to clean water and shade and have good ventilation if stabled. If you have a horse or pony with a pink nose or heels, these need to be protected with sun cream or a full-face mask to prevent sunburn.

Park Lane Stables were the winners of the Driving for the Disabled Group of the Year in the Carriage Driving Awards 2021. There are around 350 disabled people and nearly 200 volunteers who are part of the Park Lane Stables family.

Encouraging people who have never been in a carriage to have a go at driving was one of the many attractions at Sandringham Horse Trials. With the support of British Carriagedriving and Zilco Euorpe, the Bennington Team held for the first time “Try Driving” sessions in the main ring at the event.

Throughout the centuries, they have been used with chariots for ancient warfare during the Bronze and Iron Ages, with carts for transporting goods, for hauling heavy loads, for ploughing fields, pulling barges along the canals and by the 17th century with carriages for transporting people.
